The Synergi Collaborative Centre is a five-year national initiative, to reframe, rethink and transform the realities of ethnic inequalities in severe mental illness and multiple disadvantage. Funded by Lankelly Chase, it is a partnership between Queen Mary University of London, the University of Manchester and Words of Colour Productions.
Their collaborative approach will reach into segments of society without a voice, using the principles of creativity, co-production and ethnography. The Centre will work closely with commissioners, policymakers and politicians, as well as public service providers and citizens, to create and deliver a vision of eradicating ethnic inequalities in severe mental illness and their fundamental causes.
We partnered with WoC as part of the Communications Team to deliver a full brand strategy for this challenging brief.
Our design process took us on a journey to explore diverse outcomes, eventually refining back to a hand brushed theme developed by placing the letter āsā over itself.
We selected a dynamic colour palette keeping in mind the complexity of mental health, yet keeping it inspirational, light and upbeat.
With many stakeholders involved in the design process, eventually the result was a well crafted logo that represented the complexities of the projects, yet simplified to communicate effectively the key components of the professional brand image.
Eventually the brand was rolled out on various touchpoints, with a simple brand guide document to help the team easily apply the design assets on future collateral.
The Synergi partnership of Words of Colour Productions, Queen Mary University of London and the University of Manchester won a Nesta / The Observer New Radicals Award 2018.
